We link documents (prints, certs.etc) to these pages. When we bring up one of these webpages and click on the edit button it would launch FrontPage (our editor at the time) and we would edit these pages and link the documents to the page. We are now moving to Windows 7 and when I tried the trial version of CS6 (DW), it wants to open the HTM documents in Word 2010. When I go to the Tools internet options Programs in the IE 9 browser, the only options in the HTML drop down is 'Excel, Publisher, Word, Notepad'.
Use to have Frontpage (when installed) in the old days. I don't know if this is as Microsoft thing, but it dosen't show Dreamweaver in the drop down when installed.
Surely there is a way to make Dreamweaver the default HTML editor??? Adobe Tech support was no help, saying that I would have to purchase DW first, because they don't suport the trial version (LOL), this was after the sale person hook me up with tech support. Anyway, need expert help (Thanks in Advance) Fubr. I have installed Expression web and look like it would work. It is the default editor ( IE Tools internet options programs HTML Editor) I can right click on edit HTML files in expression web.
I have downloaded 3 party software to check (or edit) for default HTML editor. All keys have expression web as the editor (edit key) I have manually check through the registry in: HKEYCURRENTUSER (default - expression web) HKEYCLASSESROOT (.htm, html) HKEYCLASSESROOT (application) They all have either expression web as the editor option or have expression web listed in applications. Not seeing anything out of order (unless I’m missing something) Still can’t get the edit button to bring up expression web in our ERP software.
So Close.got to be some key or switch Fubr. Turn out to be a Reg key. To Resolve the issue, I use a third party program (windows 7 compatible) to create and add the “ Edit” option in the Context menu (right click menu). File Types Manager (There is a regular 32-bit version and a 64-bit version at the bottom of the page) Open up File Types Manager (Note: may take a few seconds to load all the file types) and scroll down on the left hand side to the first HTM file. Click on the HTM file extension (to Highlight), then at the bottom, see if you have an “ Edit” listing. If not, right click on the bottom window and pick “New Action”. Now fill in the fields in new window Action Name: Edit Menu Caption: &Edit (make sure you put the “ &” on this field!!
Command-Line: Path to you Expressionweb.exe (or Default HTML editor) “C: program files (x86) Microsoft Expression Web4 Expression web.exe” “%1” If you browse to the.exe (Browse button), the program will add the “%1” to the command-line for you Click OK and you are done. Test by right clicking on an HTM, or HTML document and you should now have a “Edit” in the right click menu, which will open the file in your default HTML editor (in my case Expression Web). Note: When I changed the.HTM file extension, it also changed the.HTML file extension for “Edit” also (Automatically) When done you should have a Edit and Edit with Expression Web (or your HTML editor - Dreamweaver.etc) in your context menu. Not sure why this happen, try it on three different Windows 7 computers.
Two would not register Dreamweaver or Expression Web as default HTML Editor. One did register Expression Web as default Editor.
I'm going to take the easy road and blame Microsoft.LOL Think they would learn something from the Apples of the past, and play nice with others. I'm going to give the points to jason1178 for suggesting the MS compatible software. This will be a cheaper alternative, and for what we need to do, it will work great! (Thanks jason1178) Hope this helps anyone else out there needing to make there HTML software the default HTML editor.
