I have tried an upgrade from Win & to WIn 10 with my Elitebook 8540w and find the fingerprint recognition drivers do not work.

All I know about reading fingers is that the index finger means you are #1 and the middle finger means you are definitely not #1. As far as the fingerprint reader, does it show up in device manager?

Look for biometric devices and under that should be listed validity sensor. If that isn't there, download the latest driver or get a version of it off the applications and drivers CD that came with it. If it's not reading fingerprints, you may have to re-enroll your fingerprints or wipe out the user credentials completely. Mikey 412's method is my favorite and I've used that many times. The HP protect software has gotten a little better with each version but it still ends up being more trouble than it is worth, same with Dell's version of the fingerprint/security software.
